All-Star Donuts on E. Flamingo

Top of the morning to you my friends. Today is Wednesday, July 25, 2012. It’s 7:13 am and it’s breakfast time.

As you know, it’s the most important meal of the day, so make sure you enjoy it.

If you’re like me, you know that donuts for breakfast once in a while isn’t just “OK,” it’s absolutely necessary, and part of being American.

To score a dozen fresh and warm donuts at the crack of dawn is one of life’s little pleasures. If you agree, I dedicate this post to you.

One of the best Las Vegas donut shops around is All-Star donuts on E. Flamingo, in the Enterprise Rent-a-car shopping center, between Sandhill, and Pecos. They open at 4:30. How perfect is that?

The deliciously scrumptious home made donuts which are prepared daily at All-Star donuts are enough to put them at the top of my Las Vegas donut shops list, but All-Star Donuts also serves kolaches, which makes them a special donut shop.

If you don’t know what a kolache is, you can read all about them here, or just think of a soft and sweet pastry filled with either sweet or savory ingredients. In fact, you could even read about Tasty Buns, and get a good idea of a kolache.

The first time I ever heard of a kolache was when I was in Houston. Kolache shops are the donut shops of Houston, they’re everywhere out there.

All-Star Donuts’ proprietors also learned of the kolache when they lived in Houston, and have now set a new standard for  Las Vegas donut shops by offering them on their menu.

The flavors will vary from day to day, and All-Star sticks to traditional, savory-filled kolaches, and leaves their donuts to take care of your sweet tooth.

Today’s kolache choices were  sausage and cheese, with jalapeno, or without. I ordered two without, and a dozen donuts.  The total before tip was $12.10, and I discovered a baker’s dozen in the box when I got home.

That’s like .81 per item, and we’re talking about home made donuts and flavor-filled kolaches of love, people. That’s a bargain for any waker-baker.
